  • Powers Irish Whiskey

No other whiskey tastes like Powers Irish Whiskey because no other whiskey is made like it. A blend of triple distilled pot still & grain whiskeys, this is the story of how our truly unique distillation process delivers a complex, rich and layered taste that is ours and ours alone.
Powers is made at the famous Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork. Like all of our whiskeys, we begin with the careful and considered selection of the finest ingredients.
The creation of the pot still side of our whiskey begins by malting barley, then drying it in enclosed kilns so as to not impart any smokey flavor - unlike many other whiskies.
This malted barley is then combined with unmalted barley and finely milled. This combination is mixed with water and our exclusively cultivated brewing yeast, creating a mash indigenous to Irish Whiskey.
During fermentation the starches of the combined barleys are converted to alcohol. The ‘wash’ that is produced is then triple distilled and carefully maturated to ultimately become pot still whiskey.

  • The unique cut

    At the heart of Powers complex and spicy flavor lies its distillation process, where, uniquely, more is cut from the top and tail of the second and third pot still charges, taking only the heart of the distillate.  The process starts within our copper stills where there are three stages of distillation, each happening in identical pot stills. These three stages are;
    1.The Wash Still
    2.The Feints Still
    3.The Spirit Still
At each stage the liquid is heated, turning the alcohol into vapour and rising into the swan neck. But it’s in the second and third stills where the condensed spirit is uniquely cut to create the pot still element of Powers. Here we cut more heads off by cutting in later, and more tails off by cutting out earlier, leaving us with the uniquely focused, tightly cut heart of the distillate. This removes heavy fusel oils and overtly floral esters from the distillate.  The result is a singular, individual distillate which has a characteristically powerful, spicy and robust flavor that has always been associated with the Powers style.

  • Maturation

Now that we have created this unique pot still flavor, our maturation process works carefully to protect and enhance it as it slowly matures.   Where other whiskeys over rely on the woods used in maturation to impart flavour, Powers is matured in mainly second and third fill American oak casks which protect and round out, rather than dominate, our carefully crafted distillate.  Our Master Blender then thoughtfully combines this distinctive pot still whiskey with triple distilled grain whiskey which has been carefully matured in the same way, producing the familiar, complex flavor that is Powers Gold Label.

  • Non Chill Filtration

The unique distillation process used in the creation of Powers is

highly evolved, resulting in a whiskey that is singularly well made.
This quality is such that we dont have to chill filter our whiskey,
serving to maintain both the aesthetic and taste characteristics of our
distillate style.Traditionally whiskeys of less than 46% abv are chill
filtered however Powers is uniquely the only Irish whiskey at 43.2% ABV
to be non-chill filtered, adding yet another notable aspect to this
    special whiskey.

  • ABV & Bottling

Our ABV of 43.2% is significant for a number of reasons. We believe that a slightly stronger volume of alcohol helps our distillate driven style to be resonate even more pronounced. And we’re not the first generation of Powers distillers to think so. Our traditional export strength, stretching back to the 1960s, had always been 43%. Remaining true to our heritage, we have chosen to return Powers Gold Label to its export roots.  Bottling  Now all that is left is to bottle our Whiskey. Every one bears our distinctive gold label, and each of them represents the strength we have in our beliefs. We are  unashamedly proud of it and everything that went in to creating it. So enjoy a glass and discover for yourself why with knowledge comes Powers.

There’s a reason why no other whiskey tastes like Powers - no other whiskey is made like Powers. The distinctively rich, round, complex, full flavors come from the unique way in which all our whiskeys are crafted. Not only do we triple distill our whiskey, we cut more from the top and tail of the second and third charges taking only the heart of the distillate. We then maintain this unique flavor profile through careful maturation and proprietary non-chill filtration. This results in a powerful, spicy flavor that is ours and ours alone.

Powers Gold Label is a complex spice and honeyed taste experience. Every drop is triple distilled, with more cut from the top and tail of the second and third Pot Still charges. This means only the purest heart of the distillate is captured. This is then left to mature in select American oak casks which allow our distillate driven style to shine. Powers Gold Label is blended with the finest grain whiskey, also exclusively matured in American oak casks. Finally, a proprietary Powers
production technique enables a non-chill filtration at 43.2% ABV – unique amongst Irish whiskey.

Under the watchful eye of our Master Blender, the whiskeys have been selected and married at just the right time to create an overall character of balance, intensity and depth.
